My education and career thus far has been in the world of science and data. I graduated from James Madison University with a Degree in Geology and have spent the last four years working within the geophysics industry.

Geology taught me how to think critically with both top-down and bottom-up logical reasoning. In many ways geology gives you a finished puzzle and asks not just, “how was this put together?”, but also, “how were the pieces made?”.

While I majored in Geology my minor, to many of my peers surprise, was in creative writing.

Technical writing and research papers are a good challenge, there’s a lot of joy in laying out the facts clearly and concisely. I chose creative writing because there is so much that can be gained from studying a deeper utilization of the English language.

Prior to starting my work in Geophysical data I was an executive assistant fresh out of university. In my professional career I have had the opportunity to design the layouts for three separate websites, two from my role as an assistant and one from my geophysics company.

What I learned is that I enjoy the collation of information with the intent of presenting to an audience. Knowing what to write is the first step, knowing who you are writing to dictates everything else.
